Mobile Phone Battery Explosion Causes Fire in Ibadan

On June 8, 2026, at approximately 20:15 hours, a fire broke out at the Tecno Complex located at Mokola Roundabout in Ibadan, Oyo State, due to an explosion of a mobile phone battery. The Oyo State Fire Service Agency received a distress call from Mr.

Oluyomad Adepeju, whose shop was engulfed in flames. Fire personnel, led by ACF Amoo, promptly mobilized to the scene.

Upon arrival, they discovered that a second shop on the upper floor of the commercial building was also engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the premises. The firefighters swiftly contained and extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent properties.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by the ignition of nearby combustible materials due to the battery explosion. No casualties were reported during the incident, and firefighting operations concluded by 22:58 hours.

Moroof Akinwand, the chairman of the fire service, commended the officers and urged the public to adhere to safety precautions when using electrical appliances.
