APC and PRP Candidates Clash Over Wealth Allegations

The governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar and Senator Shehu Buba Umar, have engaged in a dispute over allegations concerning the senator's source of wealth. Abubakar reportedly questioned the legitimacy of Buba's funds during a political meeting, leading to Buba filing a six-page petition with the Inspector-General of Police.

In this petition, Buba accused Abubakar of making defamatory statements that could harm his reputation, specifically citing remarks about the "questionable" nature of his wealth. Buba's lawyers described these comments as cyberstalking and cyber-defamation, demanding police action within seven days.

In response, Muhammad AlKasim, a member of Abubakar's legal team, asserted that Abubakar's comments were a legitimate exercise of free speech and did not specifically name Buba, arguing that the name "Shehu" is not unique. AlKasim urged calm among Abubakar's supporters as the investigation proceeds.
