Bauchi Declares Work-Free Day for Local Government Elections

The Bauchi State Government has announced that Monday, August 17, 2026, will be a work-free day to allow civil servants and public workers to participate in the upcoming Local Government Council elections. This declaration, made by Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, applies to employees at local, state, and federal levels, as well as those in the banking sector.

The decision follows the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission's announcement of the election date. Gidado emphasized that the measure is intended to enable eligible citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote without interference from official duties.

However, workers in essential services are exempt from this declaration. He urged residents to participate peacefully and responsibly in the electoral process and assured that relevant authorities would work to maintain a peaceful electoral environment.
