Bauchi Senator Shehu Buba Umar Denies Banditry Allegations

Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has voluntarily presented himself to security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, and Defence Intelligence Agency, for investigation regarding allegations of banditry, terrorism financing, and kidnapping. During a press conference in Bauchi on Monday, he denied these allegations, asserting they are part of a politically motivated campaign against him, which he claims dates back to 2014 and has intensified as he prepares for a 2027 governorship bid with the Peoples Redemption Party.

His legal team, led by Chief Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, is pursuing defamation proceedings in the Federal High Court in Abuja and has filed a petition with INTERPOL concerning one of his accusers based in Niger Republic. Umar urged his supporters to remain calm and called for a transparent investigation while challenging his accusers to present credible evidence rather than relying on unverified claims.
