Bayelsa Deputy Governor Dr. Akpe Addresses Building Negligence

On Saturday, Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe attributed the frequent building collapses and failed projects in the state to the negligence of engaging qualified engineers and compromising professional standards. This statement was made during a courtesy visit from members of the Yenagoa branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) at the Government House in Yenagoa.

Akpe highlighted the critical role engineers play in the state's development, particularly in the New Yenagoa City project, referring to them as “master planners.” He noted that many failed buildings resulted from the lack of professional engagement. Akpe praised local engineers, including Engr Moses Dika and Engr Olice Kemenanabo, for their contributions to the state’s gas turbine project and assured the NSE of government support for its initiatives.

He advised the association to submit requests for training and support collectively through its central body. Engr Eluanatein Mac-Jokori, the NSE Yenagoa Branch Chairman, requested government assistance for training programs and the construction of a 500-meter access road to the Engineering Resource Centre.
