Bayelsa Governor Warns Against Land Allocation to Herdsmen, Supports Local Rice Farmers

Bayelsa State Governor, Sen. Douye Diri, has cautioned traditional rulers in the state against allocating land to herdsmen within forest areas to prevent the destruction of farmlands.

The Governor emphasized the negative impact of herdsmen on food production and warned of sanctions for anyone found violating the anti-grazing law. Additionally, the Governor announced the flag-off of the 2025-2026 dry farm season and support for local rice farmers with a monthly N200 million intervention.

The aim is to increase rice production in Bayelsa State by the end of 2026.
