Navy Raids Militant Camp in Bayelsa, Arrests Three Suspects

On August 6, 2026, the Nigerian Navy conducted a successful raid on a suspected militant camp in Fununu Community, Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, as part of its efforts to combat militancy and maritime crimes in the Niger Delta. The operation, executed by personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Formoso under the leadership of Lt.

Cdr. Success Chukwu, was based on credible intelligence regarding the camp's involvement in attacks on nearby communities.

Three suspects were arrested: 58-year-old Mrs. Egoibiye Warri, 65-year-old Mr.

Jacob Jugbu, and 19-year-old Mr. John Ibogomo.

The raid resulted in the recovery of a pump-action rifle, AK-47 magazines, walkie-talkies, a ballistic vest, camouflage uniforms, mobile phones, machetes, and a motorcycle. The operation was praised by Capt.

S.K. Haruna, the Commanding Officer of FOB Formoso, for its professionalism and lack of casualties.

However, the alleged militant kingpin, Sunday Godlaw, escaped during the raid. The arrested individuals and recovered items were handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) on August 7, 2026, for further investigation.
