Bayelsa State to Enhance Healthcare with New Deployments

The Bayelsa State Government announced its plan to deploy 19 doctors, 210 nurses and midwives, 185 pharmacy technicians, and approximately 50 laboratory medical technicians to primary healthcare centres across the state. This initiative aims to strengthen clinical services at the grassroots level, particularly in rural communities where residents typically seek initial medical attention.

Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, the State Commissioner for Health, made this announcement during a training organized by the Health Emergency Initiative, sponsored by FIRST E&P. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the clinical component of primary healthcare centres, which are primarily managed by community health extension workers and environmental health officers.

The deployment will cover all 18 local government areas in Bayelsa State, with specific allocations for areas with challenging terrains. This initiative is expected to improve healthcare outcomes by providing residents with access to qualified medical personnel closer to their communities.
