BBYDI and Foundation Launch AI Ethics Essay Competition

The Brain Builder Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) partnered with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation to promote ethical artificial intelligence and digital literacy among Nigerian youth.

The partnership included an essay competition that attracted 1,423 submissions from students across 549 tertiary institutions in 37 states. The theme focused on artificial intelligence for public good and balancing innovation with human welfare.

The competition's first review stage narrowed entries to the top 100, which were assessed by a five-member expert panel. Twelve finalists were selected, comprising four female and eight male students.

Adeniji Yusuf Joseph from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, emerged as the winner, receiving a cash prize of ₦400,000. Enoch Aremu from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology won second place with ₦300,000, while Deniran El Caleb Obanijesu from Obafemi Awolowo University secured third place with ₦200,000.
