NYSC DG Urges Corps Members to Combat Misinformation

Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), cautioned corps members against sharing unverified information on social media during an inspection visit to the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Katsina State. He emphasized the importance of critical thinking and verifying content, especially with the 2027 general elections approaching.

Nafiu highlighted the responsibility of corps members to combat misinformation, warning them about the dangers of old photographs and digitally manipulated content. He reminded corps members that they are prohibited from engaging in partisan political activities during their national service.

Nafiu disclosed that corps members are likely to be deployed as ad hoc personnel by the Independent National Electoral Commission during the elections, presenting an opportunity to contribute to credible elections. He noted that while an individual vote counts as one, serving as an official could help thousands of Nigerians exercise their voting rights.
