Priscilla Kuye: First Female NBA President's Legacy

Priscilla Kuye, born on August 18, 1940, in Lagos, made history as the first female president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) from 1991 to 1992. A member of a royal family, she initially trained as a state registered nurse at St.

Bartholomew's Hospital in England before switching to law, obtaining her LL.B from the University of London in 1966. After attending the Nigerian Law School, she was called to the Nigerian Bar on June 19, 1967.

Kuye established her law firm, Priscilla O. Kuy & Company, in Lagos in 1970.

Her ascent within the NBA included roles as auditor, financial secretary, treasurer, and vice president before becoming president. During her tenure, she was known for her outspoken defense of human rights and judicial independence, particularly during Nigeria's challenging military rule period.

Kuye remains a significant figure in Nigeria's legal profession, influencing women's representation in law.
