Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya Elected NBA President

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has been elected as the second female president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), marking a significant milestone after 34 years. The announcement was made by Aham Ejelam, SAN, the chairman of the electoral committee, who declared her victory despite internal challenges, including a technical glitch.

Badejo-Okusanya received a total of 12,317 votes, representing 47.18%, defeating her closest rival, Lateef Akangb, SAN, who garnered 7,934 votes (30.39%), and Aar Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, who received 5,855 votes (22.43%). The total votes cast amounted to 26,106, indicating a highly competitive election.

Although Badejo-Okusanya was absent during the announcement due to a flight delay, her campaign team member, Aminu Gadanya, expressed her commitment to fostering unity among candidates. The outgoing president, Mazi Afam Osigwe, noted that the election faced significant challenges, including cyberattacks that nearly disrupted the electoral process.

Badejo-Okusanya will serve a two-year term from 2026 to 2028.
