Kano Assembly Suspends LG Chairmen for Misconduct

On Tuesday, the Kano House of Assembly suspended the chairmen of Bagwai, Bebeji, and Rogo Local Government Areas for three months over allegations of financial misappropriation, abuse of office, and other misconduct. This decision was made during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Ismail Falgore, following the adoption of a report from the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, chaired by Hon Aliyu Muhammad.

The committee investigated separate petitions against the chairmen, examining documentary evidence and holding sessions with their legislative councils. Allegations against the Bagwai chairman included misappropriation of funds for developmental projects.

The Bebeji chairman faced accusations of abuse of office and procurement irregularities, while the Rogo chairman was accused of undermining government policies and misappropriating funds for local projects. The Assembly unanimously adopted the committee's recommendations, suspending the chairmen and directing their vice chairmen to assume acting roles.

The committee was tasked to conclude its investigation within 10 weeks.
