Onjeh Defends Benue Youths After Attack on Peter Obi

Daniel Onjeh, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Benue South, addressed the attack on Peter Obi's convoy during his attempted visit to Yelwata. Onjeh, who was present during the incident, stated that the attackers were primarily middle-aged men in their 40s and 50s, distancing Benue youths from the actions of the assailants.

He urged the public to recognize that Obi had significant support in the state, especially among the youth, as evidenced by his 308,372 votes in the 2023 presidential election, closely trailing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate's 310,468 votes. Onjeh questioned the portrayal of youths as attackers, noting that many had expressed disappointment and invited Obi to return to demonstrate their support.

He clarified that Obi's visit was not a campaign but a gesture of solidarity with victims of violence. Onjeh asserted that the footage of the incident showed that the attackers did not represent the youth of Benue.
