Benue State Trains Marine Marshals for River Security

The Benue State Government has commenced training for marine marshals as part of a broader security strategy to address rising insecurity in riverine areas. This initiative, announced by Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Marine Blue Economy, Paul Bebe, is a response to increasing attacks by criminal elements, including armed herders, who exploit the state's waterways for movement and escape after committing crimes.

Governor Hyacinth Alia's administration aims to safeguard lives and properties across the state through this new security outfit. The marine marshals are expected to patrol major waterways and gather intelligence to support existing security agencies in responding swiftly to threats.

The government has also procured boats for this purpose, with several communities along the Benue River set to benefit. The initiative is seen as a critical step towards achieving peace and stability in the state, with expectations that the marine marshals will significantly contribute to protecting the populace and promoting economic activities.
