Atiku Abubakar: Benue Crises Are Solvable with Action

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), asserted that the ongoing crises in Benue State are not insurmountable. He emphasized the urgent need for solutions to the violence and displacement affecting the region, which he described as "the Food Basket of the Nation." In a social media post, Atiku referenced an Amnesty International report indicating that 6,896 people were killed in Benue during the first two years of the Tinubu administration.

He linked the violence to rising food prices, arguing that insecurity directly impacts agricultural production and, consequently, the cost of living for Nigerians. Atiku criticized the Tinubu administration for failing to convert increased government revenue into improved security measures.

He expressed his belief that the crisis can be resolved through justice and peace-building efforts, drawing from his past experience in brokering peace between communities. Atiku also urged ADC candidates in Benue to prioritize the welfare of the people over political interests.
