Benue State Dismantles Illegal Checkpoints, Arrests BSCPG

The Benue State government, under the advisement of Special Adviser on Security and Internal Affairs Joseph Har, dismantled several illegal checkpoints across the state on Tuesday. This operation specifically targeted multiple checkpoints along the Makurdi-Otukpo road, which were found to be obstructing traffic and creating opportunities for criminal activities.

The Benue State Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG) personnel were disarmed and arrested for operating these illegal checkpoints. The state police emphasized that checkpoints should only be established with proper authorization and in collaboration with the Nigeria Police.

Additionally, two checkpoints manned by BSCPG personnel were dismantled, and soldiers were ordered to remove a checkpoint near a Chinese office, which was claimed to be protecting a Chinese harbor company. The government reiterated that BSCPG members should not establish checkpoints unless operating alongside the police and urged the public to report any illegal checkpoint activities.
