Benue State Government Clears Makurdi Slaughterhouse Area for Urban Renewal

The Benue State government has commenced clearing the Makurdi slaughterhouse area along Aw Street to pave the way for commercial development and urban renewal. Governor Hyacinth Alia directed the Benue State Urban Development Board to take immediate action, with heavy-duty machinery set to begin work on January 19, 2026.

Illegal structures are to be removed ahead of planned demolitions, signaling a new phase of urban renewal in the area. The State Police Command has also been commended for recent arrests related to activities in the slaughterhouse area.
