Benue State Celebrates Young Sporting Talents

The Benue State Government recognized outstanding young sporting talents following the 2024/2025 Basic Education School Sports (BESS) Games State Finals, where LGEA Primary School, Wurukum, Makurdi, emerged as the overall champion. The competition, organized by the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), featured events such as the Ayo game, 100M race, relay race, long jump, and football for both boys and girls.

Grace Adagba, Executive Chairman of Benue SUBEB, emphasized the need for platforms to discover talent in children and praised Governor Hyacinth Alia for his transformative efforts in basic education, including sports development. The Commissioner for Education, Margaret Adamu, and Vandeikya Local Government Council Chairman, Dennis Guda, also commended the governor's support.

Aisha Garba, Executive Secretary of UBEC, represented by Zipporah Panguru, and former Super Eagles striker Samson Siasia encouraged young athletes to remain disciplined. Governor Alia's deputy, Sam Ode, reiterated the administration's commitment to improving basic education.

The event concluded with the presentation of trophies and prizes to outstanding performers.
