British Council Partners with Benue to Train 150 Teachers

On 15 September 2026, the British Council commended the educational advancements in Benue State, particularly in pupil enrolment and teacher development. This recognition coincided with the launch of a capacity-building program for 150 teachers and headteachers in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Fwanshishak Daniel, the Director of English and School Education at the British Council, noted the state's progress in educational quality. The Strengthening Teachers’ English Proficiency (STEP) program aims to enhance teachers' English proficiency and overall effectiveness in the classroom.

Dr Margaret Adamu, the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, emphasized that the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia prioritizes teacher development through strategic partnerships. Since 2023, approximately 8,900 teachers have participated in various training programs.

The STEP program includes five days of physical training followed by ten weeks of online training, reinforcing the commitment to continuous professional development.
