Zamfara Flags Off 2026 Basic Education Sports Finals

The Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) officially launched the State Finals of the 2026 Basic Education School Sports (BESS) competition at the Zamfara College of Art and Science (ZACAS) in Gusau. The event, themed “Promoting Talent, Building Character, Strengthening the Future,” aims to encourage discipline, teamwork, and excellence among participating pupils.

The competition features athletes from 14 local government areas and includes four events: football, handball, volleyball, and table tennis. Prof. Nasiru Garba Anka, the state chairman of ZSUBEB, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Universal Basic Education Commission's (UBEC) mandate to promote talent and quality education.

He noted that the competition is designed to instill core values of sportsmanship and physical development among students. Winners will represent Zamfara State at the national BESS competition in Kaduna.

The finals are scheduled to run throughout the week, culminating in the final events over the weekend.
