ZSUBEB Launches 2026 Basic Education Sports Finals in Gusau

The Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) officially launched the State Finals of the 2026 Basic Education School Sports (BESS) competition in Gusau at the Zamfara College of Art and Science on Saturday. The competition, themed “Promoting Talent, Building Character, Strengthening the Future,” includes participants from all 14 local government areas of the state.

Prof. Nasiru Garba Anka, the state chairman of ZSUBEB, stated that students will compete in four events: football, handball, volleyball, and table tennis. He emphasized that the selection of these sports aims to encourage physical development, gender inclusion, and mass participation.

Prof. Anka noted that the competition is not solely about winning but about instilling sportsmanship values in young learners. He commended the support of school heads, teachers, coaches, and parents in preparing the pupils.

Winners will represent Zamfara State at the national BESS competition organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission in Kaduna.
