Storm Damages Otukpo School, Students Continue Exams

Following a storm that hit Otukpo on Friday night, Jesu College, established in 1954 and run by the Benue State Government, suffered extensive damage, losing roofs from at least 12 classrooms and affecting laboratories and staff quarters. Principal Simon Omala reported that the storm destroyed nearly all school facilities, leaving classrooms and the exam hall in disrepair.

Despite the destruction, students continued their examinations using alternative spaces, such as the chapel. The school will temporarily close to allow for an assessment of the damage and necessary repairs.

Bernard Oga, an education officer in Otukpo, described the situation as devastating, confirming that the state ministry of education has been informed and has requested a detailed report. The storm also caused damage to homes and businesses in Otukpo, prompting local leaders to call for urgent intervention and support from federal and state governments for relief materials and infrastructure repair.
