HACPAN Opposes NHFRA Bill, Citing Patient Burdens

The Healthcare Providers’ Association of Nigeria (HACPAN) convened in Ikeja, Lagos, to discuss the implications of the proposed National Health Facility Regulatory Agency (NHFRA) Bill. HACPAN National President, Dr. Austine Aipoh, expressed concerns that the NHFRA would duplicate existing regulatory frameworks, impose additional fees, and ultimately burden patients.

While HACPAN supports improved healthcare quality and patient safety, they believe the bill's approach is flawed. Founded in 2004, HACPAN represents various healthcare facilities across Nigeria, including private hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies, which have been crucial in filling gaps left by public hospitals.

Dr. Aipoh highlighted the association's two-decade partnership with government entities to enhance healthcare services. He warned that the NHFRA could undermine their efforts and lead to increased costs and reduced access for ordinary Nigerians seeking medical care.
