Kano Shuts 37 Private Health Facilities for Violations

The Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has shut down 37 private healthcare facilities due to various regulatory violations over the past 18 months. Hajiya Khadija Sa’id, the Acting Director-General of PHIMA, reported that 16 facilities were closed in 2025, and 21 were shut down between January and July 2026 for non-compliance with government regulations.

Currently, over 1,405 private health facilities are registered with PHIMA, which is responsible for regulating and supervising healthcare services provided by these institutions. Hajiya Khadija explained that PHIMA conducts routine supervision with teams of staff and ad hoc personnel, while supportive supervision involves stakeholders such as specialist doctors and community leaders.

She warned against unauthorized services being provided by clinics and stressed the agency's commitment to ensuring quality healthcare delivery. PHIMA plans to launch a new website to provide updated information on registered facilities, including data on patient attendance and health challenges, to enhance monitoring and compliance.
