Borno Truckers Face Rising Attacks, Urge Security Measures

Truckers transporting essential goods between Maiduguri and border communities such as Monguno, Marte, and Kukawa have reported a surge in attacks by insurgents, which have devastated their livelihoods. Abba Muhammad, leader of the drivers’ group, stated that the dangerous area lies between Merari and Gajiram villages, where trucks are frequently intercepted and burned.

In the past two months, more than 20 trailers and trucks have been destroyed. Recently, between Friday and Monday, five vehicles, including three trailers and two trucks, were set ablaze.

Alhaji Good Going, a prominent trailer owner, suffered significant losses with two trailers destroyed within three days. Malam Ali Zaki recounted the destruction of his truck loaded with dry fish, as well as his family's commercial vehicle, which was purchased after fleeing previous Boko Haram attacks in Doron Baga.

The truckers have urged security agencies to implement patrol strategies similar to those on the Gwoza and Chibok roads along the volatile Monguno highway.
