LAMATA Defends Compensation for Blue Line Project Residents

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has defended its compensation practices for residents affected by the Blue Line rail project in the Ojo area, responding to allegations regarding inadequate payments to tenants and property owners. In a statement released on Friday, March 20, LAMATA described these claims as unfounded and reiterated that the agency strictly adheres to policies approved by the Lagos State government.

The authority emphasized that due process is followed at every stage of compensation. LAMATA noted that compensation for affected residents is determined using global recognized benchmarks and cited precedents set during the Red Line and Blue Line rail projects.

The agency further explained that land acquired for the project is legally obtained in the public interest, facilitating major rail infrastructure aimed at alleviating transportation challenges in the state. Additionally, the Blue Line is integrated with the proposed Purple Line, enhancing connectivity across Lagos.
