Borno Commissioner Sainna Buba Threatens Political Opponents

The Obi/Kwanwkaso Movement in Borno State has stated it will hold the state Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba, accountable for threats made against political opponents. In a video from a campaign inauguration on August 29, 2026, Buba threatened to "flog" and "cut off" the fingers of anyone opposing the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He claimed, “Whoever shows us a finger, we are ready to cut off his fingers,” asserting that those who support the government would enjoy benefits. In response, State Coordinator Aliyu Balarabe emphasized that the movement would defend its members against intimidation through lawful means and demanded a full investigation if any harm came to them.

Amnesty International condemned Buba's remarks, calling them reckless and a violation of democratic principles, insisting that political choices should not result in punishment. The organization urged Nigerian authorities to investigate the threats made by Buba, highlighting the need to prevent impunity in political discourse.
