Bournemouth Nears Exeter Chiefs Takeover for Investment

Bournemouth's ownership group, Black Knight Football Club, is reportedly close to acquiring a major stake in the Exeter Chiefs, a Premiership rugby side. This move is intended to bring significant new investment to the Devon-based club.

An extraordinary general meeting (EGM) is scheduled for May, where club members are expected to vote on the proposal. The American consortium, which acquired Bournemouth at the end of 2022, has also shown interest in other clubs, including Hibernian and FC Lorient.

Recent trends indicate an increase in external investment in English rugby clubs, with notable examples including Red Bull's takeover of Newcastle and James Dyson's 50% stake in Bath. Ryan Caswel, a board member of Black Knight, and Exeter Chiefs chairman Toni Row were present during a recent match where Exeter faced Northampton Saints, further fueling speculation about the deal's progress.

Row acknowledged the need for fresh investment to sustain the club's growth, emphasizing that external funding would significantly improve their financial position.
