BPP Launches Free Training Portal for Small Businesses

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) launched a free digital training portal aimed at helping micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria enhance their ability to secure government contracts. The portal was unveiled in Abuja by BPP Director-General Dr Adebowale Adedokun.
It addresses knowledge gaps and technical limitations that hinder small businesses from effectively participating in public procurement. The initiative includes interactive learning modules, quizzes, practical examples, and a certificate of completion, guiding businesses through the procurement process.
Dr Adedokun highlighted that MSMEs represent about 96% of businesses in Nigeria and contribute approximately 50% to the country's GDP. Despite this, many face barriers such as inadequate knowledge of procurement procedures.
The training program, developed with support from the World Bank under the Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement Project (SPESSE), aims to create a more inclusive procurement environment. The BPP is also reviewing barriers to MSME participation following President Bola Tinubu's approval for community-based procurement initiatives.
