APC Defends Betta Edu's Appointment for 2027 Campaign

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to criticism regarding the appointment of Betta Edu as the Director of Women Mobilisation in the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election. Kemi Asekun-Shittu, the APC campaign committee spokesperson, defended the decision during an appearance on Channels Television's Morning Brief, emphasizing that Edu has not been convicted of any wrongdoing despite an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Edu, who was previously the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, was suspended in January 2024 and removed from the Federal Executive Council due to allegations of financial impropriety. Asekun-Shittu argued that it would be inappropriate to exclude Edu from political participation while the investigation remains unresolved.

The broader campaign council's composition has also faced scrutiny, with other notable names included. Asekun-Shittu assured that the list is subject to revision and that the party is committed to adhering to the rule of law.
