Bandits Abduct Zamfara LG Chairman, Kill Security Operatives

On Thursday night, suspected bandits abducted Hon. Nura Umar Bungudu, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, during a violent attack on his residence in the Zango area, located less than 20 kilometers from Gusau, the state capital.

The assault resulted in the deaths of four security operatives, including two police officers and two vigilantes. The attackers, reportedly heavily armed, overpowered the security personnel guarding the chairman's residence.

A local resident described the attack as swift and well-coordinated, leaving little chance for an effective defense. During the incident, the bandits initially abducted the chairman, his wife, and their children, but security operatives managed to rescue four or five of the children.

Despite reinforcement teams being mobilized shortly after the attack, they arrived too late to prevent the assailants from escaping with the chairman. The ongoing violence in Zamfara State has been attributed to the sophisticated weapons possessed by bandit groups and the role of informants.
