Court Halts Police Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit in Legal Battle

A Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has issued an interim order halting the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) from enforcing the new tinted glass permit policy. The court directed the police to maintain the status quo pending the resolution of a suit challenging the legality of the enforcement.

The Police had recently revived the tinted permit regime through a digital platform, citing security concerns and the need to address public complaints and harassment of motorists. The enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy officially began in June 2025, with grace periods extended twice to allow motorists to comply.

The court's order is seen as a significant step in upholding the rule of law and ensuring due process.
