Former PDP Chairman Bamanga Tukur Passes Away at 90

Bamanga Tukur, the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), passed away at the age of 90, confirmed by family sources on Saturday. His death occurred three days before his 91st birthday, which would have been on September 15.

Tukur was born on September 15, 1935, and had a distinguished career in public administration, politics, and business. He served as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1975 to 1982, a pivotal period in Nigeria's economic development.

Tukur became Governor of Gongola State in 1983 but his tenure was cut short by a military coup. He later served as Minister of Industries from 1993 to 1995 under General Sani Abacha's military regime.

Tukur was also influential in African business, holding positions such as Executive President of the African Business Roundtable. In March 2012, he was elected National Chairman of the PDP during a time of internal strife within the party.
