INEC Denies NDC Access Code for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied the National Democratic Congress (NDC) access to the necessary code for uploading candidate nominations for the 2027 general elections. This denial follows a federal high court judgment that ordered the deregistration of the party, casting doubt on its legal status.

The NDC is currently facing a critical moment ahead of the elections, as the INEC has shifted the timeline for releasing the access code to June 29, 2023, to ensure a smooth upload process. The nomination window for presidential and national assembly candidates is set from June 27 to July 11, 2026, with governorship and state assembly submissions from July 18 to August 8, 2026.

The NDC's director stated that they would challenge the INEC's refusal legally, arguing that the inability to upload candidates is a direct result of the commission's actions. The party plans to file a stay of execution in court.
