INEC Issues Access Codes for Political Parties in Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun issuing access codes to political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), People's Democratic Party (PDP), and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to enable them to upload candidate nominations on its online portal. This process commenced on the 26th, allowing parties to file details of their candidates for various electoral offices, including presidential and gubernatorial positions.

Nick Dazang, a former INEC director of voter education, clarified that granting access codes does not imply finality in ongoing legal disputes involving the parties. The NDC's access was granted based on a certified true copy of a high court judgment, while other parties, such as the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Labour Party (LP), are also involved in the process.

The issuance of these codes is crucial as parties prepare for upcoming elections, despite pending court cases that may affect their participation.
