Gbajabiamila Threatens N10bn Defamation Suit Against Matthew

Olufemi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, has issued a threat of a N10 billion defamation lawsuit against Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, demanding a retraction of allegations made during a press conference on June 25, 2026. Gbajabiamila's legal representatives, Pinheiro LP, stated that the allegations, which include claims of corruption, dishonesty, and misconduct, are false and defamatory.

The letter, dated July 6, 2026, outlines that Matthew has 72 hours to retract his statements or face legal action. The allegations made against Gbajabiamila include claims of receiving N400 million in connection with a grant and engaging in corrupt practices.

The letter emphasizes that these statements lack factual foundation and have caused significant reputational damage to Gbajabiamila. Furthermore, the firm noted that criminal charges have already been filed against Matthew in the Federal High Court in Abuja, which includes allegations of forgery related to presidential documents.
