Gbajabiamila Threatens ₦10bn Lawsuit Over Defamation Claims

Olufemi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, has issued a threat of a ₦10 billion defamation lawsuit against Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. Gbajabiamila demands that Adeyemi retract and apologize for allegations made during a press conference on June 25, 2026, which he describes as false and defamatory.

The letter, issued by the law firm Pinheiro LP, states that the allegations portray Gbajabiamila as corrupt and morally bankrupt, causing significant reputational damage. The firm claims that Adeyemi's statements lack factual foundation and are malicious.

Gbajabiamila has been given 72 hours to comply with the demands, or legal action will proceed. The letter also references ongoing criminal charges against Adeyemi in a separate case involving forgery.

The situation has raised concerns about the integrity of public discourse and the impact of such allegations on public confidence in officials.
