Malam Umar Namadi Appoints New Emir of Gumel
Governor Malam Umar Namadi has appointed Dr Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel, succeeding his father, the late Emir Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who passed away on September 3, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt. The announcement was made by Malam Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, on September 6, 2026.
The appointment followed recommendations from the Gumel Emirate Council kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs. The late Emir led the Gumel Emirate for 46 years.
Before his appointment, Dr Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani held the traditional title of Chiroman Gumel and served as the Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Development Agency (NITDA). Governor Namadi praised the kingmakers for their conduct during the selection process and acknowledged the contributions of other Emirs in the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs.
He congratulated the new emir and wished him wisdom and a successful reign.
