Nigerian Army Defeats ISWAP Attack in Borno State

On Tuesday night, between 9:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., troops from the Nigerian Army’s 101 Special Forces Battalion in Kukawa, Borno State, successfully repelled a significant attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists. The assault involved a coordinated attack from four directions.
Security sources, including counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, reported that the troops, aided by the Air Component, engaged in a prolonged gun battle, resulting in the neutralization of more than 25 terrorists. The troops recovered 14 bodies from the battlefield and a cache of arms, including six AK-47 rifles, which the fleeing terrorists abandoned.
However, the military faced casualties, with some soldiers killed and others injured during the engagement. Following the attack, the Brigade Commander visited the area to oversee troop repositioning, personnel replenishment, and equipment resupply.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to prevent terrorist groups from gaining a foothold in Kukawa and surrounding areas.
