BREAKING: Sowore Set to Take Action Over Police Detention

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore is preparing to take legal action against the Nigeria Police Force for alleged inhumane treatment during his recent detention. Sowore's lawyer, Tope Temokun, accused the police of breaking Sowore's arm in a violent attempt to move him from one cell to another on August 6, 2025.

The legal team rejected the police's account and challenged them to release an inventory of Sowore's belongings taken at the time of his arrest to prove their claims. Sowore was denied access to a medical team and was offered treatment by unqualified personnel, according to Temokun.

The legal team criticized the police for ignoring allegations, including theft, and accused them of causing Sowore's injury. Sowore's refusal to write a statement was cited as the police's justification for his detention, but the legal team argued that it was within his constitutional rights.

Sowore was released from custody.
