Wike and Fubara Meet to Cement Political Reconciliation

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, hosted Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara at his home on Sunday, marking their first face-to-face meeting since Fubara withdrew from the 2027 governorship election. This visit included key figures such as Kingsley Chinda, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, and Magnus Abe, head of the Rainbow Coalition reconciliation committee.

Relations between Wike and Fubara soured after Fubara assumed office in 2023, leading to a political crisis that included impeachment proceedings against Fubara by Wike-aligned lawmakers. A truce was later established, with Fubara joining the APC and supporting the Rainbow Coalition.

Following this reconciliation, Fubara publicly endorsed Chinda as his preferred successor and urged his supporters to back the President for a second term. Fubara had initially participated in the APC governorship screening alongside Chinda but withdrew for the sake of peace and unity.

Chinda was subsequently ratified as the party's sole candidate.
