Lagos Reiterates Strict BRT Lane Regulations Enforcement

The Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LAMATA) issued a statement on Wednesday, emphasizing that the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes are exclusively reserved for authorized vehicles, specifically buses operated under a franchise agreement. The agency, led by Kolawole Ojelabi, raised concerns over the increasing unauthorized use of the BRT corridor by military personnel, local government vehicles, and private cars, which they described as a flagrant violation of regulations.

LAMATA highlighted that only emergency response vehicles, such as fire trucks and ambulances, are permitted to use the lanes during emergencies. The agency warned that unauthorized usage disrupts operations, endangers road users, and contributes to traffic congestion, undermining improvements in urban mobility across Lagos State.

LAMATA stated that enforcement of regulations will be intensified, with offenders facing sanctions, including fines and vehicle impoundment. The agency urged all road users, including security agencies and government bodies, to comply with the established rules governing the use of the BRT corridor.
