Shettima Urges Leaders to Build Lasting Institutions

On Monday, Vice President Kashim Shettima called on Nigerian leaders to establish institutions and policies that will benefit the populace long after their time in office. Speaking at the book presentation on Brigadier Musa Usman, the first military governor of the former North-Eastern state, Shettima, represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Aliyu Modibbo, stressed the need for leadership that transcends electoral cycles.

He praised the authors, Mallam Mahmud Jega and Dr. Theophilus Aba, for documenting Usman's legacy, which remains significant across the North-East. Shettima noted that the former North-Eastern state, created in 1967, now comprises six states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe.

He highlighted the necessity for fair institutions that reflect the region's diversity. Former National Security Adviser Maj-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd) acknowledged Usman's impactful eight-year tenure, which included significant projects like the Ashaka Cement Company and the establishment of the Chad Basin Development Authority.
