Cross River State Launches Smart Surveillance Project

The Cross River State Government has approved the procurement and deployment of Phase One of a state-wide Smart Surveillance Infrastructure Project to enhance public safety and climate resilience. This initiative, approved by the State Executive Council, is part of Governor Edet Otu's administration's strategy to leverage technology for safeguarding lives and public assets.

Dr. Bong Duke, Vice-Chairman and CEO of the Cross River State Planning Commission, presented the memorandum for this project, which aligns with the Cross River State Resilience Agenda (2026–2030).

The current analogue surveillance system is inadequate, covering less than 10% of Calabar and lacking coverage in other urban areas. The project will be implemented in collaboration with Huawei Technologies Co.

Ltd. and its local partner, Dubass Synergy Multi-Services Limited. It will include the installation of AI-enabled smart cameras for various monitoring functions across strategic locations, integrated into a central command center for real-time intelligence and emergency response.
