Cross River State Launches AI Surveillance for Security

The Cross River State Government has approved the first phase of a smart surveillance project utilizing artificial intelligence to improve security, emergency response, and climate resilience. This initiative, part of the Cross River State Resilience Agenda (2026–2030), was presented by Dr.

Bong Duke, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Cross River State Planning Commission. The existing surveillance system is outdated, covering less than ten percent of Calabar and lacking coverage in other urban areas.

The project, developed after technical engagements with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., will be executed through Huawei’s local partner, Dubass Synergy Multi-Services Limited.

It will include the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a modern surveillance network at strategic locations. The first phase will focus on major intersections, government facilities, and vulnerable areas.

The system will feature AI-enabled cameras with facial recognition, automatic number plate recognition, and flood monitoring, connected to a central command center for real-time intelligence gathering.
