CAADP's Kampala Declaration to Transform Nigeria's Agriculture

Dr. Marcus Olaniyi Ogunbiyi, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, stated that the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Kampala Declaration for 2026-2035 will drive significant changes in Nigeria's agriculture sector.

This declaration aims to ensure a fundamental shift towards agro-industrial value addition and resilient food systems. Ogunbiyi made this disclosure during a national stakeholder consultative workshop held in Abuja on May 25, 2026.

The Kampala Declaration represents a renewed commitment from African heads of state to accelerate agricultural transformation, strengthen food systems, promote climate resilience, enhance intra-African trade, and improve livelihoods. The initiative builds on the lessons learned from the Malabo Declaration and addresses emerging challenges such as climate change and global food insecurity.

Ogunbiyi emphasized the importance of aligning Nigeria's agricultural strategies with continental aspirations and highlighted the need for robust financing mechanisms to support long-term investments across the agricultural value chain.
