CAF President Calls AFCON 2025 in Morocco Most Successful

Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), declared the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Morocco as the most successful in its history during a press conference following a CAF executive committee meeting in Dar es Salaam on February 13. He commended Morocco, particularly King Mohammed VI and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, for their exceptional hosting of the tournament, which took place from December 2025 to January 2026.

The tournament featured 24 participating nations and was marked by fierce competition, culminating in the final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on January 18, 2026. Motsepe highlighted the success story of Morocco as an encouragement for the next host nations—Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda—for the 2027 tournament.

He also praised the standard of African football, particularly noting Senegal's victory over Morocco in the final, which ended in a 1-0 score after a tense match that included a penalty save by Senegal's goalkeeper Édouard Mendy.
