Nigerian in Canada Faces Trial for Alleged Hate-Motivated Harassment

Kayod Robert, a 40-year-old Nigerian residing in Toronto, faces trial following allegations of hate-motivated harassment. The Toronto Police Service charged Robert with assault, causing unnecessary pain to an animal, issuing threats, and criminal harassment.

The incidents, spanning from July 1 to December 29, 2025, involved assaults, threats of harm, harassment, and anti-LGBTQI comments directed at victims and their pets. Canadian law treats crimes motivated by bias or prejudice as hate crimes, with potential aggravating factors during sentencing.

Robert is scheduled to appear in court on March 19, 2026. This case adds to a growing list of Canada-based Nigerians facing prosecution for various offenses, including another Nigerian, Oghenemaro Ejerua, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting a vulnerable adult in December 2025.
