Canada Sets Super Visa Stay Duration for Foreign Nationals

Canada's Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has outlined the duration of stay for foreign nationals qualifying for a super visa. This visa is specifically designed for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

For applications submitted on or after June 22, 2023, holders can stay in Canada for up to five years at a time. This five-year period also applies to individuals who entered Canada after this date, regardless of whether their passport was stamped by a border officer.

For those who applied before June 22, 2023, the duration of stay is determined by the approval granted at the time of entry. For instance, if a holder was granted a two-year stay, they can only remain in Canada for that duration.

However, they have two options for extending their stay: leaving Canada before their authorized period ends and re-entering, or applying for a stay extension, which can be approved for up to two additional years.
